Institute of Psychology, University of Lodz

Address: al. Rodziny Scheiblerów 2, 90-128 Łódź (show on map)

The conference part of the 18th Annual Meeting of the PSPS will be held at the Institute of Psychology of the University of Lodz. The newly constructed building is located at the intersection of Al. Scheiblerów (The Scheibler Family Avenue) and Narutowicza Street, in the so-called New Center of Lodz area. It is where the business and cultural parts of the city meet, serving a fusion of modernity and tradition. Within walking distance from the Institute of Psychology are the recently rebuilt Lodz Fabryczna railway station, EC1 (Lodz’s first power plant, whose post-industrial buildings now serve as a cultural and entertainment complex), and the 19th-century St. Alexander Nevsky Christian Orthodox Cathedral, located near the Stanislaw Moniuszko Park.

Moreover, not far from the Institute of Psychology, there are coffee houses suitable for any informal meetings you might want to plan:

  • Dzień Dobry Caffe (220 m), Narutowicza 57 (show on map)
  • Kawiarnia Ekspres do Kawy (400 m), plac Generała Henryka Dąbrowskiego 2 (show on map)
  • Koleżanki Cafe (700 m), Tramwajowa 17B/U3 (show on map)

Księży Młyn

Księży Młyn is a heritage-listed, 19th-century factory and residential complex founded at the Wodny Rynek (now Zwycięstwa Square) by Karol Wilhelm Scheibler. Called “a city within a city,” it contains  buildings of the former cotton spinning mills and a workers’ housing estate (with its own fire station, hospital, and school), residences of the factory owners, as well as a charming park (Park Źródliska). Many of the buildings within the Księży Młyn area have been renovated in recent years and now serve as cultural venues and unique spaces adapted for bars and restaurants (including Browar Księży Młyn restaurant (show on map), where the reception will be held on Saturday, September 23rd).

Before the reception, those wishing to attend are invited to a guided tour that will give you a feel for the post-industrial atmosphere of Lodz. The tour will set off on September 23 at 6:30 pm from the Institute of Psychology and will end at 8:30 pm at the Browar Księży Młyn restaurant (which is the site of our reception). Depending on the final composition of the group, the tour will be held either in Polish or English. Sign up HERE (limited number of attendees!).
